The Doric is a historic Edinburgh tavern and dining room on Market Street near Waverley station. The building became a pub by the early nineteenth century and was serving cooked meals as far back as 1823. Its traditional interior and upstairs restaurant retain a sense of continuity while welcoming modern city centre diners.
Fresh local produce shapes an à la carte menu rooted in Scottish cooking. Seasonal fish, meat and vegetable dishes sit beside familiar pub favourites, with preparation that respects tradition without treating it as fixed. Food is cooked to order, giving the dining room a more substantial role than a bar serving occasional snacks.
Children’s choices and desserts broaden the menu for families and longer meals. The central location makes the Doric convenient before a train, a show or an evening elsewhere in the Old Town. Guests with dietary requirements are encouraged to tell the team so that current ingredients and suitable dishes can be checked.
Scottish ale, cider and a strong malt whisky selection connect the bar directly with the food. Wine and other drinks provide alternatives, and limited beer releases change the choice over time. The Doric’s appeal lies in the combination of a genuinely historic pub setting, regional cooking and the sociability of a city tavern.
