The Sichuan is a Chinese restaurant at 14 City Road in London, serving the bold, aromatic cooking of Sichuan province. Its kitchen is led by Chef Zhang Xiao Zhong, a third generation chef from Chengdu whose career has included restaurants in Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai and London.
The menu explores the chilli heat, fragrance and savoury depth associated with Sichuan cooking. Signature options include grilled fish and mao cai, while dishes such as hot and sour shredded potato, stir fried pork with green and red peppers and crispy shredded duck show the breadth of the kitchen.
Chef Zhang combines traditional foundations with a willingness to refine and develop the cuisine for a London dining room. His earlier roles at BarShu and HuTong, together with his work demonstrating Sichuan food internationally, inform a menu intended to balance authenticity and innovation.
A private function room with karaoke can accommodate larger celebrations, while the main restaurant works for lunch or dinner. Sichuan cooking can vary greatly in heat and may contain several common allergens, so guests should discuss preferences, ingredients and preparation with staff before ordering.
