Vasco & Piero's Pavilion Restaurant has been part of Soho life since 1971, when Vasco Matteucci and Piero Orazietti founded a restaurant inspired by the food and hospitality of Umbria. After more than five decades in the neighbourhood, it continues at its D’Arblay Street home with the character of an independent family run dining room. Longstanding guests and first time visitors are welcomed with the same relaxed sense of generosity.
Umbrian tradition shapes the cooking, with an emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients and clear, confident flavours. Handmade pasta is central to the experience, appearing alongside regional combinations of meat, vegetables, truffles, olive oil and herbs. The menu changes twice each day, allowing the kitchen to respond to available produce while keeping the food grounded in the simple cooking that has defined the restaurant for generations.
The selection can move from delicate pasta and seafood to substantial meat dishes, giving diners plenty of choice for lunch or dinner. Italian wines, including bottles from Umbria, support the regional focus and add depth to a leisurely meal. Rather than chasing novelty, the restaurant gives familiar ingredients careful attention and lets seasonality, balance and traditional technique guide each plate.
Hospitality is as important as the cooking at Vasco & Piero's Pavilion Restaurant. The Soho setting feels polished yet personal, with Italian furnishings and art that connect the present dining room to the restaurant’s Umbrian roots. It is a place suited to long lunches, animated dinners and unhurried conversation, preserving the warmth and continuity that have made it a lasting London institution.
