Firecracker Kennington is a family run modern Asian restaurant on Windmill Row in South London. Open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday, it offers table bookings and a relaxed format built around small plates, sharing menus and quick weekday bento lunches.
Its signature Bursties are pan fried soup dumplings with a crisp base and rich broth, available with pork, beef or fragrant chicken and ginger. Bao and dumplings extend the opening selection, including charcoal buns with a molten salted egg yolk centre and flaky char siu pork pastries.
Rice and noodle bowls range from Hainanese chicken and barbecue pork belly with greens to spicy prawn and chicken fried rice. Five spiced beef brisket arrives in a long cooked bone broth, while tofu with broccoli in black bean sauce and vegan sweet and sour chicken provide substantial meat free choices.
Larger plates include aromatic duck with open bao, Firecracker sea bass and slow cooked brisket short rib, with wok cooked vegetables available on the side. Discovery and sharing sets make the menu particularly easy to explore as a group, preserving the restaurant’s focus on bold flavours and several contrasting dishes at one sitting.
