Primeur is a neighbourhood restaurant on Petherton Road in Canonbury, housed in the former Barnes Motors garage. Established in 2014, it has retained the open proportions and relaxed character of the old workshop while turning the space into a warm dining room. Counter seats offer a view into the small open kitchen, while shared tables contribute to the restaurant’s sociable atmosphere.
The food menu changes daily and is written on a blackboard, allowing the kitchen to respond closely to the produce available. Primeur gives careful attention to sourcing from sustainable and regenerative producers, then prepares the ingredients with a direct and restrained approach. Seasonal vegetables, fish and meat appear in concise dishes designed to let their natural character remain clear.
Meals can begin with snacks and smaller plates before moving to more substantial dishes for the table. Current seasonal group menus show the range of the cooking through preparations such as cod with roast tomatoes and crab bisque, coq au Riesling with braised beans, and pork belly with lentils. Desserts continue the same seasonal, ingredient led style.
Wine is an equally important part of the experience, with a cellar focused on natural bottles ranging from familiar European regions to less conventional growers and styles. Primeur serves dinner from Tuesday to Sunday and lunch at weekends. A private dining room for eight to twelve guests and larger set meals in the main restaurant provide options for celebrations and group gatherings.
