The Abbotsford Bar & Restaurant is an Edwardian pub at 3–5 Rose Street in central Edinburgh. Its original island bar is carved from Spanish mahogany and sits beneath an elegant Jacobean ceiling. The unusually well preserved interior gives a drink or meal a direct connection to the city’s pub history.
Food is served in the bar and in the restaurant upstairs, with Scottish and British pub traditions shaping the menu. Hearty meat and fish dishes, soups and lighter plates suit the historic setting. Seasonal changes and daily availability determine the precise selection, so the current menu is the best guide when visiting for a particular dish.
Scottish ingredients and familiar accompaniments keep the cooking rooted in place rather than turning the room into a museum piece. Desserts and cheese allow diners to extend a full meal, while smaller plates make a casual stop equally practical. The upstairs restaurant offers a different pace from the busier bar below.
Cask and craft beers are an important part of The Abbotsford’s identity, supported by whisky, wine, spirits and soft drinks. The pub suits local regulars, visitors and anyone interested in Edinburgh’s traditional interiors. Guests with allergies or dietary requirements should ask staff about the current ingredients before ordering.
