Adam’s Ethiopian Restaurant is a family run restaurant at 86 Brixton Hill. The business began as a bakery before developing into a place dedicated to traditionally cooked Ethiopian food, bringing the community rich stews, fragrant spices and the distinctive texture of injera. The relaxed dining room is designed for sharing, reflecting the communal style in which many of these dishes are enjoyed.
Starters include meat or vegetable samosas and kategna, crisp injera seasoned with chilli and ghee or olive oil. Doro wot slowly cooks chicken in a spicy tomato and berbere sauce with a boiled egg, while doro alecha uses turmeric and fresh herbs for a milder result. Doro firfir mixes chicken and hot pepper sauce with torn injera so the bread absorbs the seasoning.
Lamb dishes include awaze tibs with spiced chilli paste, lega tibs and greens cooked with lamb, garlic and ginger. Beef choices range from finely chopped kitfo with Ethiopian spiced butter to strips of zilzil tibs, rosemary and garlic derek tibs, and slow cooked key wot or mild alecha wot. Each style highlights a different balance of chilli, herbs, butter and long cooking.
Vegetarian and vegan dishes include red lentils, yellow split peas, cabbage, spinach, green beans and carrots, plus shiro wot made from chickpeas, tomato and spices. Combination platters bring several meat or vegetable dishes together on injera and are available in sizes suited to one or more diners. This format offers an especially rewarding way to explore the restaurant’s range of flavours in one shared meal.
