Augustine Kitchen is an intimate French restaurant at 63 Battersea Bridge Road. Chef-patron Franck Raymond named it after his grandmother, and the cooking draws on his upbringing near Evian on Lake Geneva as well as the wider traditions of a neighbourhood French bistro.
The style is honest and carefully executed rather than overly elaborate. French onion soup and snails provide classic openings, while seasonal starters and set menus allow the kitchen to respond to available produce without losing its recognisable Alpine and Gallic character.
Grilled entrecôte with fries, fish, shellfish and richer slow-cooked dishes form the heart of the meal. Lobster bisque, rack of lamb and preparations involving prawns or pike illustrate the kitchen’s ability to move between robust mountain flavours and more delicate restaurant cooking.
Crème brûlée, chocolate desserts and a thoughtfully sourced list of French wine complete the bistro experience. The cosy dining room suits a quiet lunch or dinner, and guests with allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements should discuss the current menu directly with the restaurant.
