Barrafina Dean Street is the original Soho restaurant in the London group, serving modern Spanish tapas from an open kitchen surrounded by its characteristic marble and steel counter. Red leather stools place diners close to the chefs, making the preparation of each plate part of the experience. The room is lively and compact, with the energy of Dean Street adding to a style of dining built around sharing, conversation and dishes arriving as they are ready.
The cooking draws on regional Spanish flavours and lets carefully sourced ingredients take the lead. Tapas such as tortilla and croquetas sit alongside seafood, vegetables, cured meats and other small plates, while a daily specials board responds to the best produce delivered that morning. Much of the seafood is displayed on ice behind the bar, reinforcing the direct connection between the raw ingredients, the open kitchen and the finished food.
Dean Street is the only Barrafina location that remains entirely walk in, with seats allocated on a first come basis rather than through reservations. A standing bar gives guests somewhere to order a drink and para picar while they wait, and the covered heated terrace provides additional seating at the front. Spanish wines, sherries and Cava complement the food and suit the gradual rhythm of ordering several plates over the course of a meal.
The restaurant currently serves lunch and dinner every day, with later evening service from Tuesday to Saturday. Its central Soho position is convenient for Tottenham Court Road, Leicester Square and Oxford Circus, although the walk in policy means popular periods can attract a queue.
