Santo Remedio Marylebone is a Mexican restaurant and cantina at 13–14 Thayer Street. The two part Casona and Cantina setting presents regional Mexican cooking through sharing plates, corn tortillas, distinctive chillies and carefully made cocktails. Lunch, dinner and weekend brunch give diners several ways to experience the menu, from a short taco meal to a longer group celebration.
Classic guacamole arrives with blue and yellow corn totopos and can be supplemented with grasshoppers or chicharrón. Tuna tostadas combine ancho chilli and tamari marinated yellowfin tuna with avocado, crisp shallots, chipotle mayonnaise, jalapeño and sesame. Sea bass ceviche with passion fruit and habanero and shiitake mushroom aguachile bring acidity, fruit and chilli to the lighter plates.
Tacos and flautas include crisp pork belly with salsa verde, lightly battered prawns with tamarind salsa and pineapple, Baja style fish with crunchy slaw, and beef brisket quesabirria served with melted cheese and consommé. A sweet potato and celeriac flauta with chipotle cream, feta and pickled red onion provides a substantial vegetarian choice. Corn tortillas make the core taco and tostada selection naturally gluten free.
Regional dishes for sharing include hibiscus enchiladas, chicken enchiladas suizas, sea bass al pastor, slow cooked barbacoa lamb shank and beef short rib with a mole of dried fruit, chilli, nuts and chocolate. Elote, black beans, plantains, Mexican rice and crisp potatoes complete the table. Margaritas, mezcal cocktails, Mexican coffee and weekend chilaquiles reinforce the restaurant's broad celebration of Mexican food and drink.
