The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon is Fortnum & Mason’s elegant fourth floor destination for the British tradition of afternoon tea. Queen Elizabeth II opened the salon in 2012 during the year of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations, giving the room both its name and a special place within the Piccadilly store. The atmosphere is refined and unhurried, with attentive service designed to make teatime feel like an occasion. Guests visit for celebrations, family gatherings and a graceful pause from central London, surrounded by the heritage of one of Britain’s best known food institutions.
Classic afternoon tea brings together delicate sandwiches, freshly baked scones, preserves, cream and a carefully arranged selection of cakes and pastries. The service unfolds in stages, allowing guests to move from savoury flavours to sweeter finishes at a comfortable pace. A savoury afternoon tea and a more substantial high tea provide alternatives for different appetites, while a caviar experience adds another level of indulgence. Vegetarian, gluten free and children’s menus help the salon welcome a broad range of guests without losing the ceremony of the central experience.
Tea is treated with the same care as the food, drawing on Fortnum & Mason’s long experience in sourcing and blending. The extensive list allows guests to explore black, green, oolong, white and herbal styles, with service that can guide a choice according to flavour and preferred strength. Different teas can complement sandwiches, scones or pastries as the meal progresses. Champagne and other drinks offer further options for a celebration, but the quality, aroma and ritual of properly prepared tea remain the defining elements of the salon.
The fourth floor setting separates the salon from the movement of Piccadilly while keeping it connected to the wider Fortnum & Mason experience. Guests can combine tea with time exploring the famous food halls and departments below, or visit as part of a day in St James’s and the West End. The service is designed for lingering rather than rushing, making room for conversation and repeated cups of tea. The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon combines history, polished hospitality and carefully made food in a distinctly London celebration of teatime.

FAMOUS BLENDS
Wedding Breakfast
CREATED IN 2011 | BLACK TEA First-blended in 2011 to mark Prince William’s proposal to Kate Middleton, now better known as the Princess of Wales. Made with Kenyan tea – where William asked the question – it is delicious with poached eggs on toast (or better yet, Welsh Rarebit).
Royal Blend
CREATED IN 1902 | BLACK TEA Our most-famous blend, created originally for Edward VII. An upgrade on your regular morning brew, Royal Blend’s malty, honey-like flavour makes it an ideal partner to a strong breakfast marmalade or lunchtime Rarebit.
Queen Anne
CREATED IN 1907 | BLACK TEA Named after the reigning monarch in 1707 and created to celebrate our 200th birthday, our pursuit of perfection led to the blend being changed in 1927. Left untouched since, this refreshing blend is perfect with a savoury sandwich, like smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Irish Breakfast
CREATED IN 1998 | BLACK TEA Our strongest and quickest-brewing tea, created for especially early mornings. An essential tea for early-risers, it works beautifully paired with strong marmalade on toast, or alongside a hearty Full English (or indeed, Irish) Breakfast.
Smoky Earl Grey
CREATED IN 1835 | BLACK TEA The original Earl Grey to be sold at Fortnum’s, this famous blend was created after a request from the palace for a tea with real oomph. Made from a combination of traditional bergamot, with Lapsang Souchong and Gunpowder tea added, it works very well with roast duck.
Earl Grey Classic
CREATED IN 1920 | BLACK TEA Our version of this ever-popular blend, created by our tea experts some 90 years after Earl Grey’s teatime debut. A refreshing tea with abundant citrus notes, it pairs perfectly with rich sweet or savoury flavours – from dark chocolate to spiced lamb.
Countess Grey
CREATED IN 2008 | BLACK TEA Our subtle twist on the classic Earl Grey, with sweet notes of orange citrus. Light, refreshing and particularly enjoyable al fresco, it pairs wonderfully with fresh summer fruits like strawberries, or sipped alongside a bowl of muesli, fresh yoghurt and honey.
Victoria Grey
CREATED IN 2020 | BLACK TEA It was in Queen Victoria’s reign that Britain became a nation of tea lovers, and our newest Famous Blend pays homage to the former monarch herself. Made for afternoon sipping, with or without milk, this royally good cup pairs perfectly with our Victoria Grey Tea Biscuits.
Afternoon Blend
CREATED IN 1910 | BLACK TEA We’ve been serving Afternoon Tea for centuries, and this distinctive blend is an important part of that history. A wonderfully uplifting tea, it pairs beautifully with teatime essentials like scones, cakes and biscuits.
Fortmason
CREATED IN 1935 | BLACK TEA Our most aromatic tea, the Fortmason blend has a beautiful aroma of orange blossom. Made from a blend of Indian and China teas, it pairs beautifully with fresh-baked scones and a tart raspberry jam at Afternoon Tea.
Chai
CREATED IN 2008 | BLACK TEA Recipes for this famous tea vary from region-to-region, even household-to-household – our take on Chai was created in 2008. Made using Indian Assam and a hand-picked collection of spices, it partners equally well with milk chocolate or mellow cheese.
Black Tea with Strawberry
CREATED IN 2022 | BLACK TEA A bright, refreshing blend made with China black tea and real fruit that delivers a bold and malty flavour, rich with sweet strawberry notes. A perfect companion to our famous scones, topped with our similarly-fruity Strawberry Preserve.
Black Tea with Peach
CREATED IN 2022 | BLACK TEA Ripe peach notes from real fruit pieces combine with robust China black tea to create this sunny and naturally sweet creation. The stone fruit flavours make the ideal companion to our made-in-Piccadilly Battenberg cake.
Black Tea with Vanilla
CREATED IN 2022 | BLACK TEA A rich and smooth blend of exceptional black tea and creamy real vanilla, this relaxing and naturally sweet loose leaf tea is a wonderfully uplifting teatime.
BLACK TEAS
Lapsang Souchong
CHINA To give this tea its rich and smoky flavour, plucked leaves are withered over pine fires, pan-dried and rolled, then placed in bamboo baskets and smoked over smouldering pinewood fires.
Rose Pouchong
CHINA A Chinese speciality, this beautifully light and delicate tea is made with rose petals, which are interleaved with the tea as it dries and then left in the blend for decoration, ensuring that the visual appeal matches the flavour.
Russian Caravan
CHINA This blend of Chinese black Keemun and Oolong teas recalls the ancient trading routes that brought tea to the Tsars, when tea was transported from China to Russia in a caravan of camels. Its light, nutty flavour and character evoke the grandeur of the imperial courts of old.
Lingia First Flush Darjeeling
DARJEELING, INDIA Lingia Garden stands in the middle of the Golden Top Valley in western Darjeeling, looking out at the snow-capped Himalayan giant, Kanchenjunga. The garden climbs in elevation up to 6000ft and produces some of the most revered teas in all of Darjeeling. This aromatic tea is elegant and vibrant, with a high fragrance, sweet fruity notes and long lasting minerality.
Margaret’s Hope FTGFOP1 Second Flush
DARJEELING, INDIA Small, dark brown twisted leaf with some silver tip. The infused leaves have a golden liquor with a pronounced classic “muscatel” character. The unusual name “Margaret’s Hope” was given to the garden in 1927, by the owner Mr. Cruikshank. His daughter, Margaret, enchanted by the beauty of this garden, was deeply attached to the place.
Assam TGFOP
ASSAM, INDIA A robust-tasting tea made from the delicate leaf tips of the Assam tea bush, this versatile and consistently excellent tea is a superb all-rounder.
Darjeeling FTGFOP
DARJEELING, INDIA This justly famous black tea from the bracing foothills of the Himalayas has a vivid, coppery infusion. Made from leaf tips of the highest quality, it has a subtle Muscatel taste and a full-bodied and robust character.
Rwanda OP
RWANDA Grown from the leafy high altitude valleys of Rwanda where succulent, young tea bushes enjoy the benefits of both morning cooling mists and warm afternoon sunlight. This fantastically bright and golden tea produces a rich and refreshingly smooth orange pekoe tea.
Ceylon OP
SRI LANKA A blend from the higher and lower regions of Sri Lanka delivering a light, refreshing flavour with real body. Of all Fortnum’s tea, this makes the best iced tea, staying perfectly clear when chilled, but is equally good served the traditional way with a splash of milk.
AGED TEA
Menghai Royal Pu’er
CHINA Loose leaf ripe Pu’er, rather than the traditional cakes. Brown leaf with rich aroma; the liquor is deep red, with a softness and underlying sweetness.
GREEN TEAS
Long Jing
CHINA Long Jing tea is pan-fired, often by hand, which results in a flattish yellow leaf with a savoury and gently roasted character.
Gunpowder Green
CHINA The tightly rolled tea leaves of our Gunpowder Tea are said to resemble gunpowder pellets, giving this unique tea its name. Those pellets uncurl when brewed, producing this smoky and peaceful tea.
Jasmine Pearls
CHINA Scented with whole jasmine flowers, which are hand-harvested in the evening when the flower’s aroma is at its strongest. This tea has a delicate, sweet and fragrant flavour that is perfect for drinking any time of day.
Jasmine Green
CHINA Dawn-picked jasmine flowers open towards the end of the day to release their heady scent. This carefully selected green tea is allowed to absorb this natural scent, producing an orangey-gold liquid with a delicate taste and alluring fragrance.
Bi Luo Chun
CHINA Bi Luo Chun literally translates as ‘green snail spring’ – reflecting its distinctive colour, its coiled, snail’s shell shape and the peak spring season when it is picked and made.
Moroccan Mint
CHINA Adding pure, roughly-torn peppermint and spearmint leaves to Gunpowder Tea follows a traditional recipe that is still all-the-rage in the bazaars of Fez and Casablanca. A little adventure in tea.
Genmaicha
JAPAN Also known as ‘The People’s Tea’ in Japan, this mild tea has distinctive nutty notes, thanks to the addition of roasted and popped rice to the green tea.
OOLONG AND YELLOW TEAS
Dan Cong Gardenia Flower
CHINA Long twisted dark leaves with hints of yellow. Bright golden liquor with a slight roasted character, a strong floral fragrance and sweet lingering flavour. This tea is also delicious if allowed to cool, when the flavours become even more pronounced.
Zealong Aromatic
NEW ZEALAND A fragrant light Oolong tea produced at the Zealong estate in the Waikato region of New Zealand. This exquisite tea produces rich floral notes with hints of nuttiness and a subtle sweet finish.
Iron Goddess
CHINA A beautiful orchid aroma and a smooth, creamy texture combine in this famous Oolong tea from Anxi County in China.
Nanping Yellow Buds
CHINA This is a single bud-only yellow tea, requiring meticulous selection of perfect tea buds from special bushes grown in Nanping Town in Yunnan Province.
WHITE TEAS
Silver Needle Pekoe
CHINA A light and sweet tea which rewards multiple infusions, this top grade white tea is made from only the young, unopened buds of a particular bush variety called Da Bai Hao.
White Peony King
CHINA Classic White Peony (Bai Mu Dan) style, but containing a larger amount of white shoots. The liquor is clean and very mellow, with a more golden colour and richer flavour than regular Bai Mu Dan.
Kotada Silver Tips
INDIA Hidden in the Nilgiri mountains of South-West India, Kotada Estate produces a world-renowned range of speciality tea. Kotada Silver Tips is no exception; a light and elegant tea, this is perfect for regular tea drinkers. Mild and mellow tea with a sweet floral flavour.
