Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill has served seafood on Swallow Street since 1916, making it one of central London’s enduring dining institutions. Under Chef Patron Richard Corrigan, who has guided the restaurant since 2005, Bentley’s preserves the character that made it famous while maintaining a clear focus on sourcing and seasonality. The restaurant sits between Regent Street and Piccadilly, welcoming shoppers, theatre visitors, regulars and special occasion diners. Its long history is visible throughout the building, but the atmosphere remains lively, generous and grounded in the pleasure of excellent ingredients.

Oysters are at the heart of the experience, with a broad selection from Britain and Ireland prepared by specialist shuckers at the ground floor bar. Native and cultivated varieties allow guests to compare different textures, salinity and regional character, whether ordering a few with a drink or building a larger seafood platter. The kitchen also works with wild, line caught fish and traceable seafood from trusted suppliers. Grilled fish, shellfish, fish and chips and seasonal specials are prepared with clarity, allowing the freshness of the main ingredient to remain immediately recognisable.

Bentley’s extends beyond seafood with premium British and Irish meats, giving the Grill Room a menu suited to varied preferences. Chef Richard Corrigan’s approach favours honest cooking, strong produce and sauces or accompaniments that support rather than disguise. Champagne and crisp white wine are natural partners for oysters, while the broader cellar can match richer fish dishes and meat from the grill. The balance of raw bar, classic cooking and serious drinks makes the restaurant flexible enough for a quick plate at the counter or a complete multi course meal.

Each dining area has its own character. The Oyster Bar retains its original marble counter and a bright, sociable energy, while the upstairs Grill Room combines William Morris inspired details, warm wood and blue leather in a more intimate setting. A covered, heated terrace offers year round outdoor dining with views along Swallow Street. Private rooms add further options for gatherings and celebrations. Bentley’s succeeds by joining more than a century of history with skilled sourcing, confident seafood cooking and hospitality that feels polished without becoming distant.
