Rambutan is a Sri Lankan restaurant at 10 Stoney Street beside Borough Market. Founded by chef and food writer Cynthia Shanmugalingam, it draws on her Tamil heritage and the food of the Sri Lankan diaspora in a warm, informal dining room.
The menu is built for sharing, with sambols, pickles, snacks and breads bringing contrasting heat, acidity and texture to the table. Ingredients sourced from Sri Lanka and traders around Borough Market connect the cooking to both its island roots and its London setting.
Creamy coconut dal and slow braised black pork show the range between vegetable led comfort food and deeply spiced meat dishes. Curries and grilled plates change with season and availability, encouraging guests to combine several dishes rather than order a conventional starter and main.
Desserts and drinks continue the same Sri Lankan influence, while the relaxed service makes the menu approachable to newcomers as well as diners familiar with the cuisine. Walk ins are welcomed alongside bookings throughout the week.
