Hoppers Soho is the original Hoppers restaurant, bringing the food and atmosphere of Sri Lanka and South India to a compact Frith Street dining room. Led by cofounder and creative director Karan Gokani, the concept draws inspiration from village toddy shops, coastal journeys, spice gardens and lively streetside shacks. The Soho venue earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in its first year, reflecting food that combines bold flavour with an accessible and energetic style. Its intimate scale places guests close to the bar, kitchen and movement of service, creating a sense of discovery from the moment they enter.

The restaurant takes its name from the bowl shaped pancakes made with fermented rice and coconut batter. Crisp around the edges and soft in the centre, hoppers are designed to be eaten with curries, chutneys and sambols that bring spice, tang and texture. Dosas, string hoppers, kothu roti, short eats, rice dishes and roasts broaden the experience across Sri Lankan and South Indian traditions. Rather than following a conventional sequence of courses, the food encourages guests to combine breads, sauces, relishes and shared plates into a meal of changing contrasts.

Kothu provides theatre and comfort through chopped roti cooked with vegetables, meat or seafood, while curries range from fragrant and coconut rich to deeper, more intensely spiced preparations. Sambols and pickles add freshness, heat and acidity, helping richer dishes remain balanced. Vegetarian and vegan choices are integrated throughout the menu, making it easy for mixed groups to share widely. The kitchen respects familiar regional forms while presenting them with the confidence and pace of a busy London restaurant.

A tropical drinks list places arrack and genever at its heart, alongside cocktails designed to complement chilli, coconut and roasted spice. Terracotta floors, rattan details, exposed brick, vintage posters, plants and colourful raksha masks evoke the warmth of island life without turning the room into a formal theme. Frith Street places the restaurant close to Soho Square, Chinatown and the theatres of the West End. Hoppers Soho combines vivid cooking, sociable service and a distinctive setting in a small restaurant that feels animated, generous and full of character.

Address: 49 Frith Street, Soho, London W1D 4SG, United Kingdom
