Pahli Hill Bandra Bhai is a regional Indian restaurant and cocktail bar at 79-81 Mortimer Street in Fitzrovia. The bright upstairs dining room is built around generous sharing, while the darker Bandra Bhai bar below evokes a playful Bombay drinking den, creating two distinct moods connected by one kitchen.
Small plates draw on street food and coastal cooking through papadi chaat, hara kebab, Bombay pav bhaji and crisp dosa tacos with chilli cheese or pulled lamb. Mangalore buns with crab sukkha, Andhra calamari and lamb kothu roti combine coconut, curry leaves, tamarind, chilli and aromatic spice in dishes designed to be passed around the table.
The tandoor produces chicken tikka, broccoli with cream cheese and almonds, beetroot seekh and Kandhari lamb chops served with mint chutney. Main dishes include paneer makhani, butter chicken, Mangalorean fish curry, Kerala prawn curry, lamb pepper fry and fragrant Cornish lamb biryani with raita and chilli salan.
Flaky flat bread, naan, roti and cumin rice are made for sharing with the curries, while rabdi tres leches offers cream, rose, almonds and pistachio for dessert. Original cocktails and a considered wine list give the downstairs bar its own identity, allowing an evening to move naturally from a full regional Indian meal into late drinks.
