Keep Chaating is a vegetarian Indian street food restaurant on Neal Street in Covent Garden. Head chef Priti Prakash draws on her upbringing in Surat as well as flavours from Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of India. The menu moves from quick snacks and brunch to curries and complete meals, bringing the variety and energy of Indian street food into a relaxed central London dining room.
Brunch choices include fenugreek thepla with mint and coriander chutney, potato masala toast, vegetable rava upma and chilla made with oats and gram flour. Later in the day, diners can begin with khaman dhokla, samosas, masala vada or crisp papad. These smaller dishes offer a useful introduction to the kitchen’s combination of spice, chutney, fresh herbs and contrasting textures.
Chaat is the heart of the selection. Paani puri shots, sev puri, bhel puri and layered dahi papdi chaat combine crisp shells or puffed rice with potato, yogurt, tamarind, mint and savoury toppings. Bombay vada pav and misal pav bring the flavours of Mumbai, while pav bhaji is presented as a fondue. A sharing platter allows the table to compare several chaats in one order.
More substantial choices include choley bhature, aloo paratha, vegetable tawa pulao and a thali with dal makhani, channa masala, paneer and the curry of the day. Paneer do pyaza, palak paneer and dal tadka can be matched with rice, naan, roti or poori. Chocolate golgappa, falooda, carrot halwa and gulab jamun finish the meal, with mango lassi, masala chaas, raw mango panna and masala chai providing traditional drinks.
