Patara South Kensington is a long established Thai restaurant at 181 Fulham Road. The first London Patara opened here in 1990, bringing classically trained Thai cooking into an elegant but welcoming dining room. The menu combines recognised regional recipes with polished presentation, making the restaurant suitable for dinner, celebrations and shared meals across several courses.
A sharing platter brings together chicken satay, duck spring rolls, steamed dumplings, fish cakes and mango shrimp salad. Tom yum prawn soup balances lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves and chilli, while tom kha uses coconut cream for a gentler richness. Papaya salad, soft shell crab with mango and beef salad add crisp vegetables, roasted nuts and bright lime dressings.
Curries range from chicken or beef green curry with Thai aubergine and basil to red duck curry with lychee and pineapple. Lamb shank massaman is slowly braised with coconut milk, potatoes and warm spices, while crab yellow curry uses turmeric, spinach and betel leaves. Whole fried sea bass, tamarind duck, garlic prawns and wild ginger beef broaden the main courses.
Rice noodles appear as chicken, vegetable, king prawn or lobster pad Thai, alongside flat noodles cooked with soy sauce or chilli. A dedicated vegetarian selection includes spring rolls, corn fritters, tofu, mushroom salads and vegetable curries. Jasmine, sticky, coconut and riceberry rice complete the savoury meal, with set menus offering a balanced route through Patara’s signature dishes.
