The Jam is an Italian restaurant at 289A King’s Road in Chelsea. Established in the early 1970s, it is known for a remarkable interior of stacked booths reached by wooden ladders, creating the atmosphere of a tree house or private train compartment. The recently refreshed dining room preserves that playful layout while Italian chefs prepare the food below.
Medium sized Jam plates are intended for sharing or combining into a complete meal. Polenta chips with truffle mayonnaise, fried calamari, burrata with tomato, Italian cured meats and crisp salads offer contrasting openings. Pizza rolls can be filled with salami and cheese or roasted peppers, olives and mozzarella for an informal savoury bite.
Sourdough pizzas are a central attraction, with classic tomato and cheese combinations joined by toppings such as nduja, wild mushrooms and truffle. Pasta and risotto provide alternatives through recipes including carbonara, gnocchi with sausage and mushroom risotto. Octopus, clams and other seafood extend the selection beyond pizza, while a dedicated choice supports vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diners.
Tiramisu and chocolate desserts bring the meal to a familiar Italian close. The bar pours Italian wine, Prosecco, Champagne and artisan beer alongside Aperol spritz, Negroni, espresso martini and the restaurant’s own limoncello based Jam Fizz. Together, the unusual seating, shareable food and lively drinks make The Jam as much an experience as a neighbourhood Italian dinner.
