A.Wong is chef Andrew Wong’s Chinese restaurant at 70 Wilton Road, where Victoria meets Pimlico. Wong took over the premises from his parents in 2012 and developed a highly individual style that joins family knowledge with detailed research into China’s regional food history and techniques.

Lunch places particular emphasis on dim sum, with preparations including Shanghai steamed dumplings, pork and prawn siu mai, shrimp dumplings and a steamed duck yolk custard bun. Familiar forms are often paired with unexpected ingredients and precise presentation, rewarding diners who order a varied selection.

The longer banquet travels through different periods, provinces and culinary traditions rather than following a conventional list of Cantonese restaurant classics. Seafood, preserved and fermented ingredients, noodles, duck, lamb and vegetable dishes appear in carefully composed courses intended to be experienced as a complete journey.

Wine and beverage pairings are available, and the Forbidden City bar extends the restaurant’s interest in Chinese drinking culture. The restaurant can accommodate some intolerances but states that it cannot cater for food allergies because of the nature of its ingredients, so diners should discuss requirements before booking.

Address: 70 Wilton Road, Pimlico, London SW1V 1DE, England
