Chef Javad is a Persian restaurant and bar at 343 Kensington High Street. The menu combines charcoal grilled kebabs, aromatic rice, slow cooked specialities and a broad set of starters in a comfortable dining room. Individual plates and large sharing selections make it equally suited to a simple lunch, an evening meal or a generous group feast.
Cold starters include hummus, baba ghanoush, yoghurt with cucumber or shallots, Persian mixed pickles and panir sabzi with herbs, feta and walnuts. Warm dishes bring smoky mirza ghasemi, kashk bademjan, herb filled kuku sabzi and barley soup to the table. Fresh Salad Shirazi and traditional naan balance the richer aubergine, yoghurt and walnut flavours.
The charcoal grill covers minced lamb koobideh, tender barg and chenjeh, lamb chops and several styles of chicken marinated with saffron, lemon, yoghurt, spice or pomegranate and walnuts. Mixed grill platters combine different skewers for two or four people. Each kebab can be paired with saffron rice, bread, salad or chips, with grilled vegetables providing a meat free choice.
Persian specials include herb and dried lime ghormeh sabzi, lamb shank with dill and broad bean rice, chicken with barberries, and fragrant rice finished with nuts and candied orange peel. Vegetarian stews use pomegranate and walnut, aubergine, split peas or herbs. Saffron ice cream, faloodeh, baklava and syrup soaked zoolbia and bamieh provide a floral, sweet conclusion.
