Koya Soho is the original udon noodle bar on Frith Street, opened in 2010 and formerly known as Koya Bar. Its simple counter focused dining room places the kitchen at the centre of the experience, serving Japanese breakfast, lunch and dinner without reservations.
Fresh udon and dashi are prepared every day, giving the noodles their firm texture and the broth its clean savoury depth. Guests can choose hot noodles in hot broth, cold noodles with warm broth, or chilled preparations with dipping sauce, then select toppings such as tempura, smoked mackerel, mushrooms or braised tofu.
Rice bowls provide another substantial option, combining beef, fried chicken, vegetable tempura or prawns with rice and miso soup. Small plates include homemade pickles, seaweed salad, grilled tofu, Japanese fried chicken, tempura and cider braised pork belly, while a changing blackboard menu introduces seasonal ideas.
Traditional Japanese breakfast sets pair grilled fish, rice, miso soup and pickles, with lighter egg and vegetable choices also available. Sake, beer, plum wine, tea and soft drinks complete the meal, and the walk in format makes Koya a flexible stop from morning until late evening.
