O Cantinho de Portugal is a family run restaurant at the heart of Stockwell’s Portuguese community. Established for more than twenty years, it offers the warmth and generous portions of a neighbourhood dining room while celebrating traditional recipes and regional flavours from across Portugal.
A meal can begin with olives, bread, chouriço, cod fritters, clams, prawns or other tapas suited to sharing. These opening plates introduce the restaurant’s straightforward approach, using fresh ingredients and familiar seasonings to create food that feels recognisably connected to Portuguese home cooking.
Fish and seafood are important parts of the menu, with grilled sardines, sea bass, squid, octopus, shellfish rice and several preparations of salted cod. Meat dishes include Portuguese steak and pork cooked with clams, pickles, olives and coriander, bringing together coastal and inland traditions on the same table.
Portuguese wine, beer and coffee accompany the food, while rice pudding, flan and other familiar sweets provide a comforting finish. Service from morning until late allows the restaurant to move naturally from coffee and a quick meal to family lunches, lively dinners and evenings spent watching Portuguese television or sport.
