Velho Portugal is an intimate Portuguese restaurant at 12A South Lambeth Road in Vauxhall. Set within the area known as Little Portugal, it offers a warm neighbourhood atmosphere and a broad menu shaped by Portuguese comfort food, seafood, grilled meat and dishes associated with Madeira.
The meal can start with caldo verde made with cabbage and chouriço, chicken soup or vegetable soup. Tapas include clams in white wine sauce, garlic or chilli prawns, grilled chouriço, Galician style octopus, sardines, calamari, chicken gizzards and potatoes in spicy sauce, making the opening selection especially well suited to sharing.
Fish and seafood remain central to the larger plates.
