Romeo San is a Japanese temaki bar at 38 George Street in Marylebone. Inspired by the fast paced handroll counters of Tokyo and Los Angeles, it places guests at the counter while chefs prepare each roll in front of them. Warm seasoned rice, cool seafood and crisp nori come together moments before each temaki is served, preserving the contrast of texture that defines this style of sushi.
Set menus offer a simple route through three, four, five or six handrolls. Yuzu salmon combines tobiko, citrus and vegan mayonnaise, while daikon yellowtail adds spring onion, sesame chilli oil and takuan. Spicy tuna, spicy eel with asparagus and gochujang, truffle crab and vegetable choices such as cucumber or wakame allow diners to build a progression that moves from clean and delicate flavours to richer combinations.
Individual temaki extend the selection with sea bass dressed with kosho, fatty tuna with kizami wasabi, and ikura with shiso and white truffle oil. Signature rolls place premium ingredients at the centre, including A5 Wagyu with white truffle, fatty tuna with caviar and seared butterfish with truffle oil. A concise sashimi section offers seared salmon, yellowtail with jalapeño and yuzu, and seared otoro.
The focused format works well for a quick solo meal or a shared tasting at the counter, and the walk in policy keeps the experience relaxed. Matcha mochi provides a compact sweet finish. Iced green tea, Japanese beer, sake, shochu grapefruit and a Tokyo pear cocktail complement the fish and rice without distracting from the immediacy of each freshly made handroll.
