Pilpel Spitalfields is a casual vegetarian falafel restaurant at 38 Brushfield Street. This was the original Pilpel location, opened in 2009 around a family falafel recipe, and it continues to serve the busy Liverpool Street and Spitalfields neighbourhood.
Falafel is fried fresh and can be packed into a white or wholemeal pitta or served in a container with bread on the side. Hummus forms the base, followed by a choice of green salad, tabbouleh, cabbage, carrot, pickled cucumber, chilli, onion, tahini and red chilli sauce.
Toppings such as hard boiled egg, aubergine, feta, guacamole, artichokes and sun dried tomatoes allow each order to be adjusted. Sabich combines hummus, aubergine and egg without falafel, giving the compact menu a distinct alternative to the signature chickpea fritters.
Nearly the whole menu is vegan apart from clearly identifiable egg and cheese additions, and the falafel itself is made without flour or breadcrumb filler. Fast moving counter service suits a workday lunch, while eat in seating lets customers enjoy the freshly assembled food on site.
